Creative Academy

Opened in September 2008, This innovative new creative academy offers a modern creative approach to alternative provision or flexible learning for young people who have experienced difficulties in the traditional education system in years 10 & 11.

Located at the newly refurbished Cartwright house in Hanley the new academy uses creative artforms combined with Asdan and Open College Network qualifications to offer a comprehensive curriculum offer that develops skills required to lead a positive and productive adult life. This new academy has capacity  for both full and part time education plans.

Unity Creative Academy

Based close to the city centre, we offer a range of services and activities around creative artforms generally for post 16. The main programme based at this site is run in partnership with Connexions and targets young people aged 16 – 18 who are at a transitional age to education, employment or training and require additional support in positive future decision making. Supported through a new level 1 qualification called the “Arts Award” young people explore creative opportunities while also working towards their next steps…

Workshops are available on a half day, full day or over a structured timescale and can be bespoke to your specific needs. Our practitioners all have real industry experiance in their chosen artform together with youth work training which makes them effective in engaging and supporting creative development of young people. Workshops are often delivered in Schools, Community groups, Youth settings and Young Offenders Institutes and can target a particular topic or theme.

All of our staff are also “Arts Advisors” which means that they are also trained to deliver the Arts Award programme which is available at level 1 & 2 and carries 6.3 and 23 school performance points respectively.

We offer School Workshops nationwide and have previously worked in London, Staffordshire, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool and beyond!

For your peace of mind all of our staff have enhanced CRB checks renewed every 3 years and as a company we have Public liability insurance up to £10 million pounds.

BESPOKE PROJECTS

illustrateTHE NOSUCH DISCO ILLUSTRATION PROJECT

Incorporating drawing, illustration, story writing and computer aided design this project works in primary schools and other youth settings. The concept allows young people to create their own story books based on social issues using wild and wonderful creative characters to illustrate their thoughts and feelings. By young people participating in the creation of these books it is anticipated that they will be more engaging and relevent to the readers.

grafittiCAN PAINT GRAFFITI MURALS & CLOTHING CUSTOMIZATION

A new social enterprise supported under the Unity umbrella, CANPAINT is already gaining interest from schools, businesses and the community as its work is recognised at promenent sites across Stoke on Trent. Murals at School entrances, large open spaces and around building sites of new community use buildings are just some of the places you would already of seen some of this fantastic work.

schoolSTOKE ON TRENT SUMMER COLLEGE

Summer project that provides creative learning over the 6 week summer holiday for young people who are on Intensive supervision orders or who have recently been released from Prison. This project aims to increase creative opportunities and learning, boost attainment through the “Arts Award”, increase Literacy and Numeracy and support young people into positive destinations at the end of the 6 weeks. In 2008 the summer college in Stoke on Trent was the first one across the country to put a young person through their level 2 Arts Award, a huge achievement that was recognised across the UK.

CREATIVE ACADEMY HIRE

Our 2 creative academies based in Hanley are available to hire by schools, organisations and community groups. The academies offer state of the art creative software and hardware which allow young people to develop their creativity using new media and art. We can tailor the day to your needs and have in the past supported groups to design their own magazines, posters, make t shirts or produce music and much more!

DESIGN & PRINT WITH “UNIQUE”

Working predominately with youth groups or services targetting young people in the third sector we incorporate young people on our programmes in the concept through to design stages. This gives young people the opportunity to get experiance of a real working environment while also has the added benefits of creating profit that can be reinvested into increasing our services and activities for young people in Stoke on Trent. This service is especially relevent to marketing services aimed at young people as it can incorporate consultation into the conceptual process.

CONSULTANCY & PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Offering advice, ideas and guidence on innovative, modern youth provision our team are always keen to work alongside other projects and groups who may benefit from our experiances. We have previously been commissioned to support schools in accrediting work through the arts award and developed creative youth groups and made each piece of work totally bespoke to a specific idea.
